Off-road: where the bounce isn't hidden

On asphalt, tire bounce is an invisible phenomenon. Milliseconds, micro-lifts, physics that occur below the rider's perception but have consequences.

Anyone who has ridden enduro, motocross, or rally knows it: the rear wheel spinning while searching for traction on a broken uphill, the rear end dancing on a loose stone downhill, landing a jump where the bike doesn't settle immediately. On dirt, tire lift is not an exception lasting a few milliseconds. It is the permanent condition of the terrain.

And yet, the conversation about off-road suspension continues to revolve almost exclusively around springs, hydraulics, and travel. As if the tire were a passive element.

The terrain that never repeats itself

The suspension of a dirt bike is calibrated to absorb large impacts: jumps, steps, deep ruts. It works within its range, between 1.0 and 1.5 Hz, and it does so well.

The problem is everything that happens between impacts. The continuous succession of stones, roots, and small ruts generates high-frequency excitation that keeps the tire bouncing almost constantly. Each bounce is a fraction of a second without traction. And on dirt, where grip is already scarce to begin with, every fraction without traction means the wheel spins, engine power is lost, and the line gets messed up.

The dirt rider compensates with technique: body back, progressive throttle, reading the terrain. But technique manages the consequences. It doesn't eliminate the cause.

On asphalt, the Resonator closes an invisible gap. On dirt, it works in plain sight.
